Beach Time Altered Spool
by Karen Jiles | 8 years ago
Hi there,
Karen here, sharing an Altered Ribbon Spool that I created with the Coastal stack. This stack includes beautiful patterns with pearl foil and printed linen, perfect for both sea and beach-themed projects. I decided to alter a large ribbon spool with photos of one of our family vacations at the beach. This little display is a great way to preserve memories of the fun and special moments. I’m including an easy tutorial below.
Supplies
DCWV Stack: Coastal
Wooden Ribbon Spool
Photos
Ribbon
Hemp
Flowers
Charms
Metal Pulls
Eyelets
Trimmer
Scissors
Crop-a-dile
Xyron Adhesive & Laminate
Hot Glue
Instructions
Step 1: Trim patterned paper from the Coastal stack down to (2) 5 ¼" x 12" strips. Trim sentiments from Coastal stack.
Step 2: Fold papers in half creating (2) 2 ¾" x 12" strips. Score with a bone folder to create a defined scored line. Run the papers though the New Creative Station and adhere each side of the papers together. Run bone folder over the strips. Note: This enables patterns on both sides of the strip of paper.
Step 3: Trim additional pieces of coordinating papers from the Coastal stack to 1 ½"x 12" and run them through the New Creative Station with the Beach sentiments from the Coastal stack.
Step 4: Adhere strips of 1 ½" x 12" patterned papers to 2 ¾" x 12" patterned papers. Trim coordinated papers down to 1 ½" x 2 ¾" and adhere them to each end of the patterned paper strips.
Step 5: Turn strips over and apply adhesive using Mega Runner. Adhere ½ an inch of 1 strip to the other strip. See photo. Note: This step secures the 2 strips together and creates (1) 2 ¾" x 23 ½" strip.
Step 6: Run photos through the New Creative Station and adhere to the strip.
Step 7: Add sentiments from the Coastal stack.
Step 8: Run beach-themed punches through Xyron Sticker Maker. Adhere to patterned paper strip.
Step 9: Change adhesive cartridge to the 2-sided laminate cartridge and run the strip through the New Creative Station.
Step 10: Trim edges of the strip then punch a hole using the Crop-a-dile and add eyelets to each side of the strip.
Step 11: Attach the strip to the spool using hemp. String hemp through the eyelet holes in the strip and tie them to the spool.
Step 12: Wrap the strip around the spool and add a metal pull.
Step 13: Continue wrapping the strip around the spool and create a closure by adding hemp to the eyelets to secure them around the pull. Note: Use a rubber band to hold the strip as you continue to add additional embellishments.
Step 14: Add a circle die cut card and metal pull to the top of the spool. Note: The circle die cut card is for journaling purposes.
Step 15: Adhere flowers, bows, and charms to the spool.
This was a super fun project. I’m including more of my Beach Time Altered Spool below:
