Fun with Color and Create cards!

Hi DCWV friends, it's Jaclyn joining you on the blog today. Have you spotted the shelves of pretty new DCWV products available at your local Jo-Ann? It's hard to pick a favorite of this big new release, but I must admit I have been having lots of fun playing with the Color & Create collection. In fact, I have been joined by my four year old daughter for many of these said coloring sessions. Since coloring in general is one of her favorite past times, I had built up quite the collection of finished images. I couldn’t let these pretty images go to waste, tucked away in my craft area. So, I decided to use them as the starting point for some handmade cards.

When combined with a white card base and some simple embellishments, the colored images really shine. This hot air balloon was a favorite of mine and I love the way it looks colored in a rainbow pattern.

Many of the images are sized just right to fit the front of a standard sized card. In addition, there are loads of pre-printed sentiments to finish off your card design. Simply trim out the sentiment, add foam adhesive if you wish, and apply it to your card front.

There are also various smaller size images that are sized perfectly for tags, mini albums or tiny little notecards, such as these.

These itty bitty notecards are perfect to lay on someone’s desk, tuck away in a purse or a coat pocket, or even stash in a lunchbox for a fun and unexpected surprise.

I’ve noted that a stark white color palette is the perfect design choice to really let your colored images shine, but you may have noticed a little extra texture on my cards, as well. I pulled several patterns from the brand new Embossed White Stack to add some subtle texture and pattern to my designs.

I should also note that the Color & Create stacks are printed on a nice and heavy stock. While you could certainly keep it simple and reach for your kid’s Crayola colored pencils (as I’ve used here), the surface is definitely durable for markers, watercolors or other mixed media products.

Well, it’s time for another coloring session with my favorite little girl. I bet I’ll be back soon to share what I’ve done with another big stack of colorful images. Until then, wishing you a colorful and crafty week!
