I *heart* Dad

Hi everyone!  It’s Social Media Design Team member Karen, and I am here today with a little post featuring a great stack called The Gilded Paper stack (available at AC Moore).  Now, I have to admit that I am usually all about bright colours that pop off the page, but there is a muted peacefulness to this stack that makes me want to use it more and more.  It has become an absolute staple for me when tackling more masculine-themed layouts, cards and projects! And I have to admit that although I really love bright papers, crafting with this stack challenges me in new ways!

The biggest challenge for me is finding different ways to make the similar papers visible.  I love that I do not have to work hard at all to make things coordinate, but I always worry a bit that one pattern will get lost in another.  Adding a contrasting banner with a repeating phrase was one way I played with making the frame I cut out stand out even more from the papers behind it.  There was a fair amount of black in the pictures, so I felt comfortable working with a dark pen, but I think a lovely chocolate brown would also work!

The other way that I tried to keep the patterns independent was simply by making sure I had a number of layers and that they overlapped in different places.   In the end, I think the page looks like a series of pictures and doodles up on a wall or bulletin board, and I really love that slightly disheveled and non-permanent feel (although with the amount of adhesive on this page, those pieces are not going anywhere!).

I love playing with papers that I wouldn’t normally gravitate towards – it really challenges me to try new things, and in the end, I really love the way this page turned out! Have you used this stack yet? Don't miss it!

Thanks for stopping by!
