Sweet Memories Mini

by Karen Jiles | 8 years ago

Hi there,

Karen here, sharing a mini album created with the New “Birds & Butterflies” paper stack. I love this stack. The colors and patterns are perfect for spring and summer projects.

This mini album was so much fun to create.  I used classic patterned papers, some fun vintage frames, wooden sentiments, and patterned ribbon to make this album come to life. I incorporated some recycled patterned transparent product packaging as inserts in the album, and also added some fun embellishments throughout. Paper bags were also used within the album to serve as pockets for memorabilia and additional pages. Take a peek at my tutorial below.

Supplies

  • DCWV Stack: Birds & Butterflies
  • Chipboard (2): 6" x 6"
  • Paper bags (2): 5 ½" x 10 ½"
  • 1" Circle Punch
  • Frames
  • Wooden Words
  • Ribbon
  • Clips
  • Cinch/Binding Tool & Coils
  • Distressing Tool
  • Bone Folder
  • 3D Tape
  • Xyron Adhesive: The New Creative Station, Creatopia Machine, Mega Runner
  • Hot Glue

Instructions

Step 1: Trim 4 pieces of patterned paper from the Birds & Butterflies Stack down to 6"x6" for the front and back covers. Run each one through the New Creative Station to apply adhesive. Adhere patterned paper to the chipboard covers (both the front and back of each one). Set aside.

Step 2: Choose coordinated (5-8) 12"x12" patterned papers. Fold the sheets in half, score them with a bone folder and run the full sheets through the Creatopia machine. Pre-folding the sheets enables the fold to serve as an easy guide to fold and adhere 1 side of a 12"x12" sheet to the other side, creating a 6"x12" piece of patterned paper. Trim the 6"x12" sheets down to 6"x6". Note: This will make your pages double sided and will also give them a nice firm feel. Set aside.

Step 3: Fold the bottom of 2 paper bags inward, creating an extra album page. Using the Mega Runner, apply adhesive to adhere the paper bag bottoms together. Apply adhesive to the side flaps of the paper bag pages. Note: The goal is to create additional pages. Leave all insert areas of the bags open/un-adhered. They will be used as pocket options.

Step 4: Trim 2 coordinated patterned papers down to 5½"x 10½" to cover the left and right sides of the paper bags. Form the papers to each side of the bags and run them through the Creative Station. Adhere to each side of paper bags. Repeat this step for both paper bags, including inside paper bag pages.

Step 5: Turn paper bags over and adhere a 6"x12" piece of coordinated paper to the back of the bags as shown in the photo. Trim any excess.

Step 6: Using a circle punch, punch half circle out of the center of the opening of the paper bag pages. Note: Use the rounded indentation in the bag as a guide. Set aside.

Step 7: Collect all pages, including paper bag inserts to form the mini album. Using a binding tool, punch holes in pages and use coils to bind the album. Note: I added printed transparent product packaging (Prima) as pages to add more fun to the album. I also trimmed 1" to 1-1/2" off of some of my patterned paper pages to add multiple fun elements throughout the album. I then distressed all pages with distressing tool, including the front and back cover. Note: The white core makes the distress effect effortless.

Step 8: Run front cover paper layers through the New Creative Station and adhere front cover.  Add wooden words and embellishments to front cover.

Step 9: Continue building the front cover. Add bow to album cover and ribbon to coils.

Step 10: Run patterned papers and cut outs through the New Creative Station and adhere to the pages throughout the mini album. Note: The "Birds & Butterflies" stack includes fun cut outs to use throughout the album. Continue embellishing as desired.
